SUMMER 16

Cape’s Y-D Continues As No. 1 Team

Much as the Boston Red Sox hold the best record in the major leagues at the All-Star Game break, New England ’s other Red Sox—the Cape Cod League’s Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox—have maintained their grip atop PG Crosschecker’s ranking of the nation’s top summer college league teams. The Red Sox, winners of two of the last three Cape Cod titles, are 15-5-1 and have a commanding lead in the Cape ’s Eastern Division.

A trio of Y-D pitchers—Georgia Tech’s Eddie Burns (3-0, 1.71), Boston College ’s Terry Doyle (3-2, 2.40) and Coastal Carolina’s Bobby Gagg (3-0, 2.12)—are among several pitchers who share the Cape Cod League lead with three wins. Burns was the Braves’ 16th-round pick in this year’s draft, while Doyle was selected in the 21st round by the Dodgers. Overall, the Red Sox have posted a 2.48 ERA.
