SUMMER 16

The Cape Cod League’s Cotuit Kettleers hung on to its No. 1 spot in PG Crosschecker’s Summer 16, a ranking of the nation’s top summer college teams. The Kettleers ran their record to 7-2 on the strength of a second straight outstanding pitching performance by sophomore righthander James Simmons (UC Riverside), who has not given up a run in his first two starts. He worked the first seven innings of a 4-0 win over Orleans on Tuesday. Last week, he blanked No. 2-rated Wareham over the first eight innings in a 7-2 win.
