Corey Black,
5-10/150, R/R, Mission Bay,San Diego, CA
Summer Team
– San Diego Show, Braves Scout Team
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Black is presently a fairly small player but he projects
in a big way. At 5-10/150 he will get
bigger and stronger, but his game is outstanding and he can play anywhere on the
field including behind the plate. His
tools are good now and will all get even better. He has a strong arm, good hands
and feet with a great feel for the game.
He is very athletic, runs very well, and shows outstanding instincts.
On offense he shows a good line drive approach and advanced patience. He's also an excellent base runner. The thing that impressed us the
most in
San
Diego
is his approach to the game, he's a true baseball player and he plays for keeps! College coaches are going to love this
kid. Black is a good student.
Beau Amaral,
5-10/165, L/L,
Huntington Beach
,
Huntington Beach, CA
Summer Team
– HB Nitro
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Amaral is another of four players who were in
San
Diego
who have major league bloodlines. At
5-10/165 he looks very athletic with plenty of room for projection. He runs very
well and he can really play the outfield.
He showed good range and excellent instincts in the outfield and on the bases. He has an advanced feel for the game
both on defense and offense. Amaral
can hit, he has a professional left handed swing that really looks under control. The ball jumps off his bat and it looks
like he might end up hitting with some power.
Right now he is a leadoff type or 2-hole hitter who can handle the bat and
make things happen. Amaral needs to
be followed closely by highest level college recruiters and pro scouts.
This is a very good player and a good student as well.
Michael Broad,
5-11/165, R/R, Nova,
Boca
Raton, FL
Summer Team
– East Cobb Astros
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Broad is an athletic 5-11/165 MIF that we have seen many
times. He was the MVP of the 16U BCS
National. In
San Diego
he showed his all around talent. He's an excellent infielder with good hands and
a strong arm. He can cover the ground
and make all the plays. Offensive is
where Broad stands out the very most.
He can flat out hit and he has some serious power that should only get better as
he grows older. His power is mostly
gap to gap and he does a great job of attacking the ball while staying under control. He just looks good at the plate.
Broad is also a runner and he plays the game the way it's suppose to
be played. He's one of the top 09s
in the country and a good student.
Jeff Gelalich,
6-1/170, L/R, Bonita,
La
Verne, CA
Summer Team
–
San Gabriel
Valley
Arsenal
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Gelalich has a great 6-1/170 athletic frame.
He showed outstanding outfield instincts with a plus arm in
San Diego
. He's a player that leaves you wanting
to see more of him. He runs well, and
most importantly he can use the speed he has.
Offensively he has a good left handed swing and can create bat speed. He uses the whole field and projects
to hit with power. Gelalich is a player
who could really jump up on scouting lists over the next year or two.
He does everything very well and projects off the charts.
He's a player to watch closely and also a very good student.
Chad
Kettler, 6-1/180, S/R, Coppell,
Coppell, TX
Summer Team
–
Dallas
Tigers
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Kettler really impressed us with his all around ability
in
San Diego
. Listed at 6-1/180 he looks a bit
lighter than that, but he's got a great baseball body.
He's an excellent defensive shortstop with a very good arm.
He can make it look pretty easy in the field.
As often as he was on base in the game, we should have got some good running
times, but he just never would ground out for us. It seemed like he either got a
hit or walked every at bat. He can
hit from both sides of the plate and he did hit against some of the best pitchers
in the country. Kettler also pitches
and threw 85-88 with a good breaking ball and what appeared to be a cutter at times. He is deceptive, cross body delivery
and he can pitch. Some might worry
about his deceptive delivery causing arm problems at some point.
Kettler is a player and a two-way guy, and he will get a lot of serious interest
over the next couple years. He's a
very good student as well.
Joel Thys,
6-1/185, S/R, Placer,
Auburn, CA
Summer Team
– Baseball Mentoring Program
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Thys is a 6-1/185 switch hitting catcher who is an outstanding
receiver. He showed a good, accurate
and quick arm in
San Diego
. He's a take charge guy who has a
real good feel for the game. He has
all the necessary tools to cause scouting interest over the next couple years. His swing looks good from both sides
of the plate and he projects to hit with serious power.
Thys best attribute is his style of play, it's a no-nonsense, time to go
to work approach, and a few college coaches commented on that.
It looks like he understands the game and enjoys using that knowledge. Colleges and pro scouts will be following
his progress. Ultimately, it all boils
down to the bat and there's no doubt that Thys has a chance to develop into a professional
hitter.
Michael Theodore,
6-2, 185, R/R,
Detroit
Country Day,
Bloomfield Hills, MI
Summer Team
– A. Green,
South Florida
Bandits
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Theodore is an athletic 6-2/185 RHP we have seen a few times. He has an outstanding arm.
He didn't have his best command in
San Diego
, but still showed his talent. He threw
up to 91 mph with good life. His arm
works very well without much effort.
He flashes a good breaking ball that should end up being a big pitch down the road.
He threw mostly fastballs and it did look like his change up only needs to maintain
arm speed to give him three go-to pitches.
Theodore has big potential with his electric arm that easily could be up in the
mid 90s before too much longer. When
it all the pieces fall in place he could be extra special.
Anything and everything is possible here.
Jacob Morris,
6-3/185, R/R, Coppell,
Coppell, TX
Summer Team
–
Dallas
Tigers
Aflac Report: August 30th, 2007
Morris is a very athletic 6-3/185 outfielder who has the
abilty to do just about anything on a baseball field.
He looked outstanding in centerfield in
San
Diego
. Plus runner, good arm, plus field,
good bat and potential for big time power, all in a big, lean athletic body. He basically threw a bull pen after
the game was played and looked good at that too.
He made the play of the game with a full speed, back to the infield catch
in CF. He showed his hitting ability
and base running ability. Morris has
special talent and along with guys like Kettler and Walsh (who wasn't able to be
in
San Diego
), Coppell High is going to be a very popular spot for pro scouts in the future. Morris gives the appearance that he
really loves the game and why wouldn't he? He is also a good student.
Look for the
last set of reports from the PG Aflac here tomorrow; a list that includes some of
the most talented players that were in attendance in
San
Diego
.
