TOP 50 JUNIOR-COLLEGE TEAMS, 2009

6. Chipola (Fla.)

2008 Record: 45-14.

Team Capsule:
The 2007 national champions were hit hard by the draft a year ago, but no team may have secured more talent to instantly replenish the ranks than the Indians. Two lefthanders, sophomore Patrick Corbin, a transfer from Mohawk Valley (N.Y.) JC, and freshman Austin Wright, one of the top prep arms in Illinois , were key off-season additions as they were clocked at 92 mph in the fall. Corbin moved into the No. 1 spot in the rotation while Wright becomes the closer. They join two hard-throwing sophomore RHPs, David Buchanan (2-0, 6.93) and Jason Townsend (7-3, 4.57). Mark Ellis, a Gonzaga transfer, moves in at first, while Blake Newalu, who transferred to Chipola from NCAA D-I power San Diego at the semester break, will see considerable time in the infield as a freshman.

Top Prospect: Patrick Corbin, lhp.
An unheralded transfer from Mohawk Valley (N.Y.) CC, the 6-foot-3, 165-pound Corbin blossomed in fall competition with his deception, 88-92 mph heater and plus slider
