| Gatorade Players of the Year Released |
| By Perfect Game Staff |
How did the recently released Gatorade list compare to the
PGCrosschecker list that was released last week?
In 31 states Gatorade and Perfect Game Crosschecker named the exact same
player. In 15 states Gatorade and PGCrosschecker named different players. There
were 4 states that either Gatorade or PGCrosschecker did not select a player.
PGCrosschecker also selected West and East Canada and Puerto Rico.
Of the 51 Gatorade Player’s of the Year, all but six players have attended
Perfect Game events. In fact, about half of the Gatorade selections attended
last year’s Perfect Game National Showcase held in Fayetteville, Arkansas. |

| High School Player of the Year in Each State |
| By Perfect Game Staff |
Each year Gatorade names a top player from each state. It
is a big honor for those players selected. We took a poll in our main
office in Cedar Rapids, Iowa recently to see how close we come to the actual
Gatorade list. The Gatorade State winners will be announced soon, so we
won’t have long before we can compare.
Here are the rules our staff played by: You can only pick ONE 2007 high school
player as the best player in his state. Not necessarily who you think will
be the highest draft pick, but who you think will end up being the best player
in the future. |

| Initial 2007 Rankings List |
|
The 2007 top 250 has a Florida 2-way prospect who has thrown 97 off the mound
ranked #1, just ahead of a couple California prospects. Florida and California
are absolutely loaded in the 2007 class. The initial list shows the top
250 according to pgcrosschecker scouts. The list will continue to grow
until it reaches the top 1,000 2007 grads in the country. Soon players
will be linked to scouting profile, grades and report pages. Keep checking back
for updates.

| Will Gerrit Cole Move Onto List of Elite Prep
Pitchers? |
| By David Rawnsley |
There was a recent column comparing 2008 first base
prospect Eric Hosmer (American Heritage HS, Plantation, Fla.) to some of the
top high school hitters over the last 20 years. The conclusion, for me at
least, was that Hosmer deserves to be compared to players such as Josh
Hamilton, Delmon Young and Alex Rodriguez, all former No. 1 overall draft
picks, at the same age.
That gives rise to the question of whether there are any high school pitching
prospects in the 2008 draft class that should be given the same consideration. |

| Eric Hosmer - A Special Hitter |
| By David Rawnsley |
According to the Perfect Game data base, the 2007 World
Wood Bat Association Fall Championship in Jupiter, Fla., from Oct. 24-28 will
be top prospect Eric Hosmer’s 16th PG/WWBA event dating back to June 2005, when
he attended the Sunshine East Showcase just after completing his freshman year
at American Heritage High. At that point, Hosmer was 6-foot-1, 185 pounds and
while an impressive young prospect, he was not a sure thing by any means. Here
is the report I wrote after that event:
Eric Hosmer is a 2008 1B/LHP from American Heritage HS in Cooper City, FL, with
a 6'1", 185 lb. frame. He has a very good baseball body and still has years to
mature. Defensively he has ... |

| Checking Results: Rawlings Preseason All America
Teams |
Rawlings is a name that always stands for baseball
excellence. Being the only baseball that is used at all Perfect Game, WWBA and
BCS events, it stands to reason that Rawlings would come to Perfect Game to
name the first Rawlings Preseason High School All America and All Regional
teams. Looking at the results, it’s very easy to see why Rawlings partnered
with Perfect Game to honor the nation’s top prep players.
2007 was the first year that Perfect Game named the Rawlings Pre-season High
School All America Teams. A first, second, third team was announced along with
8 Rawlings All Regional teams. |
