Weekly Wrap-Up |
The 64-team NCAA tournament field is set with Miami (47-8), PG Crosschecker’s No.
1-ranked team for the last eight weeks, claiming the No. 1 national seed. The Hurricanes
ran through the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament by going undefeated in pool
play, before knocking off Virginia 8-4 in championship game.
Junior outfielder Dave Dinatale (.309-9-43) earned tournament MVP honors, while
freshman lefthander Chris Hernandez (11-0, 2.44) was again outstanding in his one
start, going eight scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a 7-1 victory
over Clemson.
Junior first baseman Yonder Alonso (.380-21-66) leads a Hurricanes offense that
arguably drew one of the toughest regional fields in the country, with No. 24 Missouri
(38-19) and No. 31 Mississippi (37-24) making their way this weekend to Coral Gables. |

College Recruiting Rankings for 2008 HS Classes |
This list ranking the nation’s top college recruiting classes is much different
than any other rankings. It is based on utilizing our Perfect Game national player
rankings to rank the current college recruiting classes.
Perfect Game currently has well over 1,800 players ranked in the 2008 class. The
rankings are based on a point system. The top player (presently RHP Gerrit Cole,
signed with UCLA) gives UCLA 1,885 points. We’ve assigned the number two player
(SS Tim Beckham, signed with Southern Cal) 1,884 points and continued all the way
down the list through the final player, whose college of choice receives 1 point
in the final tabulation.

COLLEGE BASEBALL 2008: Preseason Top 100 Teams |
Showdown Looms In Talent-Rich Arizona
Arizona-Arizona State Ranked 1-2 in Top 100
It’s been 22 years since a team from Arizona won the College World Series, but that
drought could come to a screeching halt this season as Arizona is ranked No. 1 in
Perfect Game Crosschecker’s pre-season ranking of the nation’s Top 100 college teams,
while arch-rival Arizona State is hot on its heels at No. 2. Both teams have power-packed
lineups and could easily produce 25 draft picks between them in June, including
numerous early-round selections.
Before the state’s recent dry spell, the Wildcats and Sun Devils were two of the
dominant programs in college baseball, winning eight national titles between them
from 1965 to 1986. The Arizona-Arizona State rivalry was also the best in college
baseball during that span and it’s possible the Arizona schools could not only reassert
their dominance on the college baseball landscape this season, but rekindle their
once-fierce rivalry.
