| College Baseball Top 50 and Weekly Recap |
It was a very quiet week as far as PG
Crosschecker’s Top 50 rankings are concerned as the top eight teams stayed the
same. Several teams had very impressive sweeps over the weekend including No. 1
Vanderbilt over Louisiana State, No. 2 Florida State over Georgia Tech, No. 5
Arizona State over Oregon State, No. 6 Texas over Texas A&M, No. 10
Missouri over Oklahoma State and No. 18 UC Riverside sweeping Long Beach State.
With the NCAA tournament selections a week away, several big schools are very
much on the bubble. The most notable team in danger of missing the tournament
is 2006 College World Series champion Oregon State. While starting out strong,
the Beavers have dropped three straight Pac-10 series and sit at 8-13 in
conference play. They have one last chance to strengthen their hopes of an NCAA
bid against UCLA this weekend. |

Allan Simpson and Jeff Simpson have ranked the nation’s top 100 Division I
college teams to kick off Perfect Game Crosschecker’s coverage of the 2007
college baseball season. From No. 1-ranked
South
Carolina
to No. 100-ranked Purdue, we give you a rundown of what’s to like
about each team and their chances in 2007, while identifying each team’s top
prospects. For teams in the top 50, we’ve also included an X-factor—a key
development that might make a difference this year.
We’ve already ranked the nation’s top college prospects from a draft
perspective: the top 250 players in the 2007 class, along with the top 100
players in the 2008 and 2009 classes. These lists are available elsewhere on
the PG Crosschecker site.

| 2007 Top Recruiting Classes |
By all accounts, the 2007 high school class is
special--both in terms of quantity of talent and in quality. A common theme
among major college recruiters this summer and fall was that they were
recruiting everyone without regard to worrying about the draft. The reason?
With so many good pro level prospects, especially pitchers, there is bound to
be plenty of players that will slip though and end up in school. Few schools
backed off any players out of fear they would likely lose the player before he
arrived on campus.
